Phil Thomas remembers last year's "Shark Night" vividly. He remembers because he has a scar to remind him. While at a house party, Thomas, along with two other PSU students, was hit in the head with a gun.

Students will soon be able to exercise, play and socialize in a $15 million, state-of-the-art building located just east of campus, to be dedicated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27.

There's no doubt that we like our caped crusader as "real" as possible. Gritty, flawed, wounded, conflicted-in a word: dark.
But when did darkness necessitate hyper-realism? There was a time when a sense of other-worldliness and atmosphere, a cinematic wink offered me something "The Dark Knight" simply doesn't present: total escape.
