Two days after the Colombian army rescued the 15 kidnapped by the FARC (the Revolutionary Army Forces of Colombia) leftist guerrilla, I went for a walk in downtown Medellin, the city where I was born.

Why? From the earliest stages of childhood, this question seems to be top on the minds of most human beings. I remember all the "why" questions that stampeded through my head as a kid. Why is the sky blue and the grass green? Why does it get hot in the summer and cold in the winter? Why are my eyes brown?

As I get older, "why" is attached to much harder topics.
