Rockhurst thumps Bears

Playing in their one and only preseason match Wednesday night at Plaster Field, the Missouri State men's soccer team hit an offensive funk. Lacking the ability to pull the trigger in the final third of the field, the Bears lost 3-0 to Rockhurst University.

Women complete perfect preseason

The Missouri State women's soccer team finished their preseason tour in Joplin on Monday with a perfect record. The Bears took on Missouri Southern State University, winning with a conclusive 2-1 margin. Sophomores Jenna Laugh-lin and Samantha Aguilar got on the score sheet with assists from juniors Meghan Cassidy and Allison Osmun-dson, respectively.

New quarterback to play in season opener

Matt Krapfl will get the start at quarterback against Missouri-Rolla on Aug. 30 at Plaster Stadium. Head coach Terry Allen said after practice Wednesday that the sophomore quarterback should get most of the snaps in the season opener. "It could change as the season goes on, but right now we're going to go with Matt," Allen said.

Young back shadows veteran teammate

Their paths could not have been more different. One is a highly sought after recruit that had interest from Big 12 schools such as Kansas and Oklahoma State. The other converted from linebacker to fullback his freshman year, played there for two seasons, switched to a backup tailback role last season, and now finds himself as the starter.

Today marks the season opener for the Missouri State volleyball team as they host the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at Hammons Student Center The Bears take on the University of Missouri-Kansas City at noon, and then face off against Tulsa at 7:00 p.m. Missouri State will be back in action on Saturday, facing Delaware State at noon and Sacramento State at 7:00 p.

Blueprint to fantasy football

With the NFL season rapidly approaching, and fantasy football drafts taking place in the very near future, The Standard has decided to give any novice out there a few pointers going into their draft. I'm sure most of you are wondering why I got this assignment and what makes me qualified to write the story? Well in the last three years, I've won two of my three leagues and if it wasn't for a devastating preseason injury to Clinton Portis, I could have won the other league as well (finished second in the regular season).
