The U.S. government may soon place a scarlet letter on the chest of universities that raise tuition more than it wants. Pending legislation would create a Web site listing colleges that have had recurring tuition hikes and the factors that caused them. This potential change is a part of the College Opportunity and Affordability Act, which was passed in the U.
Preparing to graduate requires a lot of attention and planning, and there is much to consider, like where to live, what job to take and whether to rent or buy a house. But there is one thing that could affect all of those activities, and students don't usually plan for it: a recession.
Missouri State has recently increased its presence downtown to more than 350,000 square feet of owned and leased space. The newest lease agreement was made in order to allow Siceluff Hall to be vacated while FREUP renovations are made to the building. While the university is pleased to be a part of downtown development, some downtown businesses and employees are worried about the congestion.
Satchel Mouth is what some have called the late New Orleans musician who served as jazz legend and America's jazz ambassador to the world: Louis Armstrong. "Louis was loved and known around the world, not just to fans of jazz, but to literally everyone," said Jerry Hoover, Missouri State University director of bands.
Last week's ice storm closed the university and left some students in the dark. The second ice storm in two years shut down the university for two days, Feb. 11 and 12. It also caused a power outage of the north side of campus, causing Hutchens, Hammons and Scholars Houses to lose power.
