Students attend VP debate in St. Louis

Vice presidential candidates Sen. Joe Biden and Gov. Sarah Palin debated Thursday night at Washington University in St. Louis. About 65 members of Missouri State's College Republicans attended the debate, said vice chairman Rachel Hassani. They were also invited to a post debate rally where they were able to meet the governor and her family.

Celebs visit in support of Obama

Kristen Bell ("Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "Heroes") and Rashida Jones ("The Office") visited Missouri State Friday to speak to Students for Barack Obama's voter registration rally and canvassing kickoff. Obama Campaign for Change sponsored the event, and Bell and Jones are Barack Obama supporters.

Policy says tailgating no longer just for football

A policy passed by the Board of Governors last spring allowing tailgating before all sporting events has yet to be utilized. "The new policy is just an updated version of the old one which only allowed (tailgating in) football," said Earle Doman, vice president for student affairs.

Student claims unethical firing

A Missouri State University student was fired Sept. 26 from her job as a student manager at the university ticket office, and she said she believes it was because of a strongly worded e-mail to the university president. Lauren Lane, a senior art major, sent the e-mail because she was upset that she was told Sept.

Pro-life display vandalized

Wednesday night at approximately 8 p.m. members of Bears for Life, an on campus pro-life group, walked out of Plaster Student Union to see the miniature graveyard they had constructed earlier being vandalized. The graveyard, located between North Mall and Blair Shannon, was a part of Wednesday's pro-life demonstration and was made up of 4,000 crosses symbolizing the number of babies that are aborted each day.

Festival to focus on environment

Students for a Sustainable Future will hold Ecopalooza III on Wednesday at the Bear Paw and North Mall. The event will run all day, starting at noon. SSF has been planning the event since the beginning of the fall semester. Ecopalooza is an entertainment-based event that SSF hopes will get the word about sustainability and climate change out to the public.
