What strange times these are. I am officially a part of an historic generation, a group of young adults whose psyches were born in the wake of crises. My generation grew up on Sept. 11, watched helpless as the signs of global warming increased and lived through the worst president in American history, massive natural disasters and we're currently living through an unprecedented global financial meltdown.
The Greeks on any campus seem to get a bad reputation, and mostly it's a case of a few bad apples spoiling the bushel. But a new event is showcasing the organizations' good points, teamwork and public service. They are joining together with Habitat for Humanity to build a house for a local family, a noteworthy cause taken up by all the Greek students across our campus community.
Last Wednesday, the Bears For Life, a Pro-Life organization here on campus, erected a macabre little cemetery out of popsicle sticks on the lawn of Blair-Shannon. They surrounded it with false statistics on signs strapped to lightpoles. It was a disgusting attempt to guilt and scare people away from abortions.
I find it completely repulsive that people vandalized the pro-life display. I can see the protestors, but even the protestors were in bad taste. Instead of making people think about pro-choice, they made themselves look like idiots, holding signs saying "Up the butt" and others.
What if Sarah Palin were ugly? Would you still find her interesting? What if she were some hunchbacked, leather-faced, wrinkled old bag? Would you still care? What if she were Dick Cheney? Joe Biden? Al Gore? Would you still love her? You love her America.
