In light of what is projected to be record-breaking voter turnout, Missouri State and community officials are preparing for high voter traffic, including changes to poll locations for campus residents. "We set a record four years ago that we're going to smash this year," said Greene County clerk Richard Struckhoff of voter turnout.
The Student Government Association, Residence Hall Association and Residence Life are sponsoring a competition Nov. 4 to get students to vote. "Our focus is getting students out to vote," said Orlando Hodges, student body president. "So we created a competition to bring them out.

With a few days left in the election, Students for Barack Obama is kicking the campaigning up a notch and organizing a trip to Columbia Thursday to hear Obama speak. The rally is taking place at the Mel Carnahan Quad at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Computer services was recently awarded a $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to upgrade and unify information systems for Missouri State's Springfield and West Plains campuses. Jeff Morrissey, director of computer services, said the cooperative grant will provide $500,000 each year for five years and was the only one of its kind awarded by the department.
Cynthia McKinney, Missouri's Green Party presidential nominee, has officially been certified to be a write-in candidate for the upcoming Nov. 4 election. McKinney represents one of the four third-party Presidential nominees, including Bob Barr for the Libertarian party, Chuck Baldwin for the Constitution party and Ralph Nader, who is running as an Independent.
