Plus-minus grading scale adds options

As the new semester began just two weeks ago, it ushered in a new policy for the grades students will receive. Beginning this semester, professors at Missouri State will have a new option in the grading scale they choose to use. The former system for grading only employed five grades, which ranged from "A" to "F".

Tiffany Gerik, a senior professional writing major, noticed nothing out of the ordinary late last month when she opened her door to what she thought was a Missouri State communication student selling magazines for troops overseas. However, just four days later when two more people claiming to be communication students knocked on her door with a different story, she started growing suspicious.

Nixon, legislators visit campus to announce $2.1 million in state funding

Gov. Jay Nixon and district legislators were on campus Sept. 8 to announce a new partnership, funded by the Caring for Missourians plan, which will bring a pharmacy doctorate to Missouri State. "Over the past four or five years, Missouri State University has been involved in many special announcements, and, in my opinion, I don't think we've had one that's any more important to the citizens of Missouri than the one we will make today," Nietzel said.

Professor has visa troubles, may not return for fall semester

Students enrolled for classes taught by history professor Hannington Ochwada have not been properly introduced this semester. Due to the fact that his current visa expired at the end of July, Ochwada has yet to step foot inside the classroom. "Missouri State and the immigration lawyer they employed on my behalf are working tirelessly to resolve the matter," Ochwada said via e-mail.

Woman assaulted on campus; attacker still at large

Maybe it was her intuition, and maybe it wasn't. Tara Davis, 19, knew something was strange before she left for her nightly run on Sept. 1. "I told my roommate before I left, 'I feel really weird tonight,' but I just thought it was because I didn't have my phone on me for the first time," she said.
