Nixon asks MSU to cut $5.5 million

Undergraduate students paying in-state tuition will, once again, likely see no rise in credit hour fees next year as part of a deal with the state. However, as part of that deal, Missouri State will be forced to slash its budget as the state cuts its appropriations to higher education.

$22 million project to break ground in April

President Michael Nietzel will soon announce a major donation toward the University Recreation Center, which will help fill a $5 million gap in funding. "Students have been very patient with this project, so it's time to get it done," Nietzel said in an e-mail interview.

Clark returns to campus in new role

Missouri State hired a new director for the Office of Safety and Transportation to replace retired director Gary Snavely. Donald Clark took the position Nov. 16 and comes to it with previous working experience from the police substation, which shares the building with Safety and Transportation.

Community remembers sociology professor

Lloyd R. Young lived to improve the lives of the people around him, friends and community members said. Young, 79, a sociology professor at then-Southwest Missouri State University for 26 years, died Nov. 22 at his home. Young also served as the chairman for The Good Community Committee, a group of local leaders that seeks to find ways to improve the local community.
