Wednesday, Feb. 7
• The SMS Library and the African American Heritage Committee present a brown bag lunch program featuring Alphonso Johnson, director of the TRIO Program at SMS. Johnson will address "A Minority Prospective of Springfield" from 12 to 1 p.m. in PSU 317.
• Super Hoops 3-on-3 basketball competition begins. Cost is $5 per team.
• Aerobics instructor workshop for students who want to be aerobic instructors but are not experienced will be at 6 to 8 p.m. in PSU. Coast is $15. Register in PSU 131.
• Taylor Health and Wellness is hosting a free open house for Weight Watchers at noon. For more information, call Terri Oehm at 836-4045 or Cindy Barnett at 836-5334.
• Candy making workshop at 6 p.m. in the PSU Craft Center, room 137. Cost is $10 per person.
Thursday, Feb. 8
• Sharon Olds, State Poet of New York, will be reading her work at 7:30 p.m. at Ellis Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. An on-site book signing and reception will follow the reading. For more information, contact the SMS English Department at 836-5107.
• A lecture and discussion featuring Zaki Baruti, president of the Universal African American Peoples Organization, titled "A Chronology of Our Domestic and International Struggle for Justice and Equality" will be at 7 p.m. in the PSU West Ballroom.
Friday, Feb. 9
• Jabberwock Scholarship Pageant presented by Rho Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, "I Am Woman, I Am History: Woman of Destiny" will be at 8 p.m. in the PSU Ballroom. Admission is $8 which includes after party at University Plaza Hotel.
• The Art and Design Department presents the first annual Animation Manifesto featuring student work from the Fall semester. 3:00 to 5:00 at the PSU theater. Admission is free.
Saturday, Feb. 10
• An exhibit and display presented by The Black Archives of Mid-America, Inc. on the history of African Americans in Missouri will be displayed from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the PSU Lobby through Feb. 17.
• An HIV/AIDS awareness program will be presented by Mu Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at 5 p.m. in the PSU West Ballroom.
Monday, Feb. 12
• The presently-forming SMS Billiards Club will have an informational meeting at 6 p.m. in the PSU Games Center. For more information call Ron at 882-7918.
• A lecture and discussion featuring Joe Clark, Educator, Youth Advocate and subject of the Warner Brothers Film, "Lean on Me" will be at 7 p.m. in the PSU Theater.
Tuesday, Feb. 13
• Belly dancing lessons begin and go through March 20 every Tuesday in Taylor Health and Wellness Center room 125 from 7 to 8 p.m. Cost is $20. For questions or to register call 836-4046.
• Health and Wellness Fair featuring free health screenings for diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol will be at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m in PSU 315.
