Even though it's April, they still call it May Day.
The Student Activities Council held its annual May Day festival Wednesday. The outdoor party offered students a chance to enjoy the weather and relieve some stress before finals week.
"I love it," junior Natalie Blake said. "It's good for students because it is right before finals and helps keep your mind off school work and stress."
May Day took place on the North Mall between Blair-Shannon residence hall and Plaster Student Union. The festival provided students with games, food, arts and crafts and live bands, including a night concert by Howie Day.
Amberg Entertainment provided the main games for the students. Ted Amberg, owner of Amberg Entertainment, said the newest addition was an inflatable Laser Tag arena. Students were able to enter an inflatable maze and compete in a game of Laser Tag with their friends.
Amberg said the most popular game was the Cliff Hanger, a rock climbing wall. Students could try and climb to the top of the wall and race against their friends.
"It has a group appeal," Amberg said. "It's something they can actively participate in that is not a combative sport."
Junior Ross Tilghman volunteered at the rock wall through Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship. He said the fellowship had volunteers at several of the events and they placed him at the rock wall.
"It was a lot of fun," Tilghman said. "I was there for an hour and it felt like 15 minutes."
Amberg also provided students with the Trampoline Thing. Students could be harnessed in and Amberg said they could do flips and gymnastic moves while in the air.
Students could also compete against one another in Amberg's Gladiator Joust, which resembled the 1989 T.V. show "American Gladiators."
In the Gladiator Joust, students battled using a padded jousting stick.
"They basically go at each other and try to knock each other off the pedestals," Amberg said.
Students could participate in several games provided by many of the on-campus groups. There were games such as a ring toss, skee-ball, Plinko and a dunk tank.
