Cultures from all over the world will be represented this weekend when the Association of International Students will host the Annual International Banquet and Show on Nov. 13 from 6 to 10:30 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for non-students and can be bought at International Student Services in Carrington 302, the Plaster Student Union ticket booth and Strong Hall Room 251.
"This is a great opportunity to get food and see dances from every corner of the world," banquet chair Finy Mathew said.
The food banquet is held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Plaster Student Union Ballroom.
Association of International Students President Mamady Koita said there will be cooking from 10 different countries. He said some of the places presenting dishes are Africa, Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru and Denmark.
Mathew said there are usually eight dishes represented, but there will be ten countries this year.
Junior Nina Bassole said cooking at the banquet is a great experience.
"The performances are pretty cool, but cooking in the kitchen is so much fun," Bassole said. "We go crazy."
She said in past years cultural music from places like West Africa has played while the students cooked.
Koita said there will be tables for everyone to sit and interact.
The dance portion of the banquet and show will be held in the PSU Theater from 8 to 10:30 p.m.
Senior Francis Ayayen said this portion will feature a fashion show and dances from different countries. The fashion show will African clothing, he said.
"We will have the most common clothing from different parts of Africa and the different styles of clothing," Ayayen said.
The students have been preparing for the fashion show since the beginning of October, Ayayen said.
Some of the performances will be from Latin America, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Japan and Malaysia.
Bassole said this will be the first time students from Indonesia and Malaysia have performed.
"I am curious to see what they will be doing," Bassole said.
