Our View: Greeks make a difference
The Standard Editorial Board
Issue date: 10/9/08 Section: Opinion
The Greeks on any campus seem to get a bad reputation, and mostly it's a case of a few bad apples spoiling the bushel. But a new event is showcasing the organizations' good points, teamwork and public service.
They are joining together with Habitat for Humanity to build a house for a local family, a noteworthy cause taken up by all the Greek students across our campus community.
This venture encompasses the Greek ideals and intentions the community seems to value and advertise and shows the rest of the campus their initiative to realize those values.
The Standard often prints stories when Greeks do things they shouldn't, like hazing or underage drinking. We enjoy the opportunity to print a different kind of story, one about the good work and sense of community they offer with a project such as this.
We admire the teamwork the Greek organizations on campus are showing with their project, and encourage others on campus to take a page from their book, so to speak, when it comes to community service.
