Introducing Kyle Murphy, a junior defender for the Missouri State lacrosse team.

Popular among teammates for his relaxed sense of humor, Murphy has experience quite a bit off (and even on) the lacrosse field.

His experiences include seeing an opposing player throw a lacrosse ball at a referee in frustration and breaking his neck while playing golf.

While the Bears don't have a game in March and won't be playing again until early April, the team is still practicing. Murphy caught up with The Standard for a quick Q&A session:

The Standard: What attracted you to lacrosse?

Kyle Murphy: It was really something just keep myself in shape during spring. A buddy of mine introduced me to the sport, and I fell in love with it.

TS: Favorite career memory so far?

KM:?My freshman year, we got to go to nationals in Texas. It was really cool and a good experience.

TS:?Craziest thing you've ever seen in a game?

KM: I once saw a player try to throw the ball at a ref. I think the ref had been making calls on him the whole game and he wasn't happy with it, so he just picked up the ball, threw it, and said, 'Whatever! F--- you!"

TS:?So that guy got ejected?

KM:?Oh yeah. He got immediately thrown out for sure. It was pretty dangerous too because the refs don't have any equipment and the ball is really hard. But I guess the guy was really upset with the calls that had been made.

TS: Biggest pet peeve when playing lacrosse?

KM: I don't like trash talk. Trash talk gets me really amped up and makes me want to go that much harder. I'm a humble person so I just feel that trash talking is kind of being someone you're not.

TS: Several teammates have mentioned you as being the "funny" guy on the squad. Do you agree with them?

KM: I don't know. I don't really think I'm the funny guy (senior attacker) Dustin Rich and (freshman defender) Sam O'Brien are pretty funny, though.

TS: Favorite television shows?

KM: "Dexter," "Californication," "Entourage, " "Family Guy."

TS: Favorite movies?

KM: "Fight Club," "Dumb and Dumber." Everyone loves "Dumb and Dumber."

TS:?Favorite comedians?

KM: I like Katt Williams. He's definitely someone that I like. Mike Epps… pretty funny guy. Brian Regan, too.
