For many athletes, the senior season of high school can be the final period of having long-time friends as your teammates. Due to recruiting and skill differences, it's not often you'll be playing at the college level with the same people you played with in high school.

However, three members of the Missouri State lacrosse Bears are getting a chance to almost replicate those high school glory days.

Attacker Dave Herber and midfielders Mark Jasper and Ben Scherer are not only key players for the Bears this season, but also have been playing together for quite some time.

The trio attended Christian Brothers College (CBC) High School in St. Louis. As members of the CBC Cadets, they won a Missouri lacrosse state championship their senior year (2007) with a dramatic 9-8 victory over nationally ranked Rockhurst.

"That game was really awesome," Jasper said. "It was a David vs. Goliath matchup because Rockhurst was ranked No. 13 in the nation at the time. When we won, all of our fans stormed the field and celebrated with us."

After graduating in 2007, they all came to Missouri State. Jasper was the only one to join the lacrosse Bears that first season.

"I still had a love for the game," Jasper said.

The other two had simple reasons for not playing their first year at Missouri State.

"I joined a fraternity and that took up a lot of my free time," Scherer said.

Added Herber: "I'm not really sure why I didn't play. I was just kind of a bum, I guess. Plus, we had won a state title so I guess I was happy with going out on top like that."

Jasper eventually spread the word about Scherer and Herber to current coach Austin Holman.

"(Jasper) told me about these guys and I took his advice and they've been great additions to the team," Holman said. "It's not often you get guys from the same high school, and you can really tell that they've played together.

"They come from a good program in CBC and, they have the right skills and fundamentals."
