The search for Missouri State's new athletics director is entering its final stretch. In late May, Missouri State officials hope to make their final decision and name a new A.D.
As all the candidates are due to be on campus during the next month, here are brief biographies of the five finalists released last Friday (with interview dates in parentheses):
Bob Arkeilpane (April 26-28) - Currently the deputy director of athletics at the University of Cincinnati, a position he has held since 2005. He spent more than four years as athletics director University of Buffalo. Arkeilpane is a 1981 graduate of Syracuse, where he played defensive back for the Orange, and he holds a master's degree in sports administration from Ohio University.
Rick Darnell (May 3-5) - Darnell is currently the executive director of athletics fundraising and associate athletics director for athletics advancement at Baylor University, a position he has held for the last couple of years. He also worked at the University of Idaho in a similar position from 2004-07 and has coaching experience from multiple levels. Darnell is a 1992 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and holds a master's in business administration from Washington University in St. Louis.
Mike Marlow (May 6-8) - Marlow is currently the senior associate athletics director for the Ducks' leadership team at the University of Oregon. He has also spent time in external operations and as executive director of the Ducks' athletic fund in his 10-plus years at Oregon. Marlow also worked as assistant athletics director at the University of Idaho and spent 3.5 years as the assistant director of the Grizzly Athletic Association at the University of Montana. He is a 1990 graduate of Washington State University.
Don Oberhelman (May 10-12) - Oberhelman is currently the senior associate athletics director and chief operating officer at San Diego State University for the last couple seasons. He also spent five years supervising operational policies and procedures at the University of Southern Mississippi as well as time at Texas A&M University and Florida State University. Oberhelman is a 1993 graduate of Kansas State University and hold a master's degree in athletic administration from Florida State.
Kyle Moats (May 17-19) - Moats is currently the associate athletics director for national marketing at the University of Louisville, a post he has held for the last four years. He coordinates the Cardinals' efforts in national awareness, marketing, branding and group ticket sales and has spent time at Marquette University and the University of Kentucky. Moats is a 1988 graduate of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and holds a master's degree in kinesiology and sports management from Kentucky in 2001.
