Branding becomes new popular body-art trend

McVeigh said branding is about the same price of tattooing, and both can take multiple sessions. "The price varies with the complexity and the number of sessions that it takes to complete the design," McVeigh said.
McVeigh said that since not many people get branding, preferring tattoos as the body art they will get, he only does one or two brandings a month.
Branding is faster than tattooing because it only involves burning the skin. "For something like a cross it would only take me a few minutes to fabricate the material and then maybe a second for each mark that I make," McVeigh said.
"The healing process takes a couple weeks to a month depending on what you want to achieve. If a person wants to have a more raised scar it will take longer to heal because they have to irritate the skin in order get the desired effect," McVeigh said.
"It didn't hurt very much to get the brand, but it hurt as it healed," Futrell said. "After I got the brand, it would get stuck to the sheets."
Futrell said branders make sure the equipment and the skin are sterilized, usually with alcohol, before they make the brand. The marks are then treated like a burn and usually heal within a few weeks.

Wow... I'd be interested if the Frat members getting the brands were under the influence of alcohol when they "choose" to get branded. My answer (as it is with all things involving the Greeks) is absolutely. (Continued…)
