Valentine's Day is a day to celebrate love. But what does that even mean?

First off, Valentine's Day is the be-all end-all when it comes to those still in the first stages of a relationship. If you want things to improve, or even continue on course, Valentine's Day is simply not an option.

But who really wants an over-priced dozen of wilting roses, a cardboard box filled with stale chocolates or the always clichéd teddy bear holding a heart that says "kiss me"?

As for the men out there, I feel sorry for you all specifically. Girls are impossible to please, and trust me, I would know. I think that is why they put the Super Bowl and Valentine's Day in the same month, to give the guys their own "holiday" if you may.

Truth be told, I think that secretly, nobody actually likes Valentine's Day, and girls, you're included in this. I've found in my personal experience and from the experience of those around me that there is a lot of anger surrounding the day.

You're either mad, worried and stressed about doing the day right, or you get mad, worried and stressed if the day doesn't go exactly right. It sometimes makes some people want to lock themselves in their apartment and watch slasher movies while drinking massive amounts of cheap boxed wine.

Girls don't exactly make it easy either. "What do you mean you forgot? It's on the same day every year!" "Chocolates? Chocolates really? You know I'm on a diet!"

Do we really need one day a year to celebrate having someone in our lives? Aren't we supposed to celebrate that gift everyday? Maybe if people treated every single day like they spend Valentine's Day, people wouldn't break up. There would be no arguments.

I tried taking the viewpoint of an actual cynical person who thinks there is more to life that spending it with someone especially on an overly commercialized holiday. Well that's not what I believe.

To me, there's no worse feeling than being alone on Valentine's Day. And don't let anyone tell you different.

Turns out the only thing I actually hate about Valentine's Day is that I cannot even force myself to hate it.

Love really is everything it's cracked up to be. I think that's why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for and risking everything for.

Sure, Valentine's Day can suck, even if you do have someone to share it with. But at the end of the day, it's the ones closest to you that make life worth living.

Turns out, love always wins.
